Chang was raised in Beijing, his excellent Mandarin accent serving him well when he joined Shaw Brothers as both supporting player and dubbing actor. His younger brother, Chin Chuan was also one of its top leading men in the late 1960's. While under contract, Chang appeared in over twenty films, often in "bad guy" roles. His famous films include "The Lady Professional", "The Silent Love" and "King Eagle".
