Dresden, Germany
Maria Wimmer (1911–1996) was a German stage, film, and television actress, trained in the great German-speaking theatrical tradition. A prominent figure of the Austrian and German postwar stage, she was long associated with the Burgtheater in Vienna, where she performed a wide repertoire ranging from classical works to contemporary authors. On screen, she appeared in several European productions, including the historical miniseries Richelieu, the Velvet Cardinal (1977), in which she portrays Marie de’ Medici across four episodes. Her performance, both restrained and authoritative, suits this complex political figure perfectly.
