Clearly this is what Francis was aiming to beat when he made his version, and for good reason. There are loads of different Dracula adaptations, and while this is not 100% faithful to the book is conveys the right emotions, and has the right tension. The casting is wonderful and while some of the effects have aged, it is still a lovely movie.
