With only two hundred-odd folks living on the remote British colony of Tristan da Cunha, the young Nick is really quite fortunate to have known and fallen in love with his best friend Anne. She drops a bit of a bombshell, though, when she announces that she is going to go to study in the UK for two years. She does suggest that he comes along too, and his grandfather has even offered to pay his fare - providing he takes his grandma too, but is Nick ready to leave his home where the winds blow constantly and the only road isn't even two miles long? He quite engagingly narrates the story alongside some images of this beautifully bleak island in the middle of the Atlantic. That photography captures the sense of isolation of life here, but also some of his own sense of undecideness. He loves Anne, but enough to go to London and find himself a job? Has he the courage or the will to leave all he knows? "It'll be fine... It'll all be fine". Or will it?
